Preface

Audience

This guide provides tutorial and reference information for programmers who want to create programs that use the features of the Load Sharing Facility (LSF) software.

You should be familiar with the concepts described in the LSF User's Guide as well as with C programming in UNIX and/or Windows NT environments. If you are going to write programs using the calendars and events of the LSF JobScheduler, you should also be familiar with the LSF JobScheduler User's Guide.

Using this Guide

Chapter 1 provides a basic introduction to services provided by the LSF Application Programming Interface (API). All programmers should read this chapter.

Chapter 2 shows how to write applications using the LSF Base library (LSLIB) to access services provided by LSF Base.

Chapter 3 shows how to write applications using LSF Batch Library (LSBLIB) to access services provided by the LSF Batch nad LSF JobScheduler system.

Chapter 4 discusses advanced programming topics with the LSF API.

Chapter 5 discusses how to write shell script load sharing applications using lstools.

In each chapter, example programs are used to demonstrate the various features of the LSF API functions.

Appendix A lists all of the LSF API functions.

Related Documents

The LSF User's Guide explains a number of important concepts and gives examples of how to use LSF.

The LSF JobScheduler User's Guide describes production job scheduling, events, and calendars. LSF JobScheduler is a distributed Production Job Scheduling product-a separately licensed component of LSF.

The LSF Administrator's Guide describes how to install and configure LSF, and how to manage LSF clusters.

The LSF User's Quick Reference provides a summary of user's commands and related information, while the LSF Administrator's Quick Reference provides a summary of administrator's commands and related information.

The on-line manual pages contain detailed descriptions of all LSF commands, daemons, functions and configuration files. The lslib(3) and lsblib(3) manual pages include references to all other LSF API-related manual pages.
