Preface


Audience

This guide provides tutorial and reference information for users of the LSF JobScheduler software. This guide is intended for end users of JobScheduler. Users should be familiar with executing commands in a UNIX or Windows NT environment.

JobScheduler administrators should be familiar with the contents of this guide, along with the LSF Administrator's Guide.

Using This Guide

The first two chapters are an introduction to production job scheduling and JobScheduler. Chapter 1 is an overview of the architecture and features of JobScheduler. The information is theory and background; you can skip this section if you are not interested. Chapter 2 shows you how to use the basic features of JobScheduler. If you have never used JobScheduler before, this is the best place to start.

The rest of the chapters give more detailed descriptions of all JobScheduler features and programs. These chapters are independent of each other; you only need to read those that cover topics of interest to you.

Chapter 3 discusses events and how JobScheduler uses them to schedule jobs.

Chapter 4 explains how to define and use calendars.

Chapter 5 describes JobScheduler environment.

Chapter 6 defines jobs, applications, and job groups, while Chapter 7 shows how to track your jobs.

Finally, Chapter 8 contains discusses advanced JobScheduler features that are not as commonly used.
